A challenge of our digital age is dealing with the hassle of passwords. I thought it might be useful to mention our solution to this problem.

Have you looked into password management software? There are a bunch of competing apps out there, but they all have in common the concept of one master password to open the app, which gives you a secure database for all your passwords and other sensitive info.

Libbi and I have both used these for quite a few years, and I couldn't imagine life online without it. I run various websites and have a number of email accounts and so on, and with this kind of an app I can have different, very randomized, secure passwords for everything. Such apps include a secure password generator function. I keep all my credit card and banking info, software serial numbers, and all that kind of stuff in there. I'm using Splash ID now, because it has versions for bot Mac and PC and various smartphones and PDAs. With it I can keep the database synced between my PC desktop, my Mac laptop, and my Android phone, so I have that same info everywhere.

You only have to remember one password, and yet you're using different, strong passwords for everything. Street smarts for digital life.

passwords

David, while I appreciate the user friendlyness and seemingly safe approach to the one password in life, I will need some tutoring on how to acquire this or get this process started. THanks

Hi Kathy,
My bad for taking so long to respond. I missed your post, somehow; I should have gotten an email notice when you posted, but I had some major computer problems around that time, which may be why I missed this.

Anyway, I posted a link in the first post (and here it is again) to SplashID (http://splashdata.com/splashid/), which will give you all the info on how to acquire and use that particular app. There are lots of other competing options, and if you have something like Norton 360 or other such utility suites, you may already have such an app. Macs have a built-in app, Keychain, that gives you such functionality, in a very basic, inflexible way (which may be all you need).
